Nasdaq Expands Global Footprint with Increased Listings and Programs for APAC-based Companies

By Bob McCooey / Chairman of Asia Pacific and Global Head of Capital Markets

Over the past few years Nasdaq has seen growing interest from Asia Pacific companies seeking more diversified listing opportunities outside their home market. I visit the region regularly to engage with growing companies and discuss global listing opportunities.

Nasdaq is already home to many innovative listed companies based in the APAC region, including N-100 companies Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), JD.Com (Nasdaq: JD), and Ctrip (Nasdaq: CTRP), and other listings such as Melco Resorts & Entertainment (Nasdaq: MPEL), and Weibo (Nasdaq: WB), and many others. Nasdaq continues to welcome listings from Asia Pacific and we expect a handful of more listings this year.

I have focused some of my most recent travels in Southeast Asia, where countries are fostering nontraditional talent and encouraging the growth of entrepreneurship. Nasdaq recently announced that Vietnam-based technology startup VNG Corporation is exploring an IPO opportunity on the Nasdaq Stock Market. VNG marks Vietnam’s first unicorn expected to list in the U.S., and we look forward to supporting the company’s continued growth and access to the capital markets.

As part of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s first U.S. visit, he attended the Nasdaq and VNG Corporation Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony.

Beyond listings opportunities in the U.S., Nasdaq offers other opportunities for global companies who are looking to increase liquidity and tell their story to the investment community. The Nasdaq International Designation program supports companies that have Level 1 ADRs and list on an exchange outside the U.S. by helping to increase the visibility and liquidity for their shares. Total market cap of member companies exceeds $140B. From Australia, program members include Macquarie Group, Qantas Airways, Audio Pixels Holdings and Alexium International Group. Company members that hail from Japan include Nidec Group, Rakuten, Cyberdine and Kubota Corp.

Through Nasdaq's Listings team and our Nasdaq International Designation program, we are excited to continue helping global companies gain unparalleled visibility and enhanced exposure to the U.S. investment community.
